HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR PIERCINGS

PIERCING AFTERCARE

Proper aftercare is essential for your piercings to heal properly. The healing time is dependant on the placement of your piercing, age, and health. Here are some top tips for aftercare.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER GETTING YOUR PIERCING?

Initially

Some bleeding, localised swelling, tenderness & bruising.

During healing

Some discolouration, itching, secretion of a white straw coloured fluid (not pus) that will form some crusts around the jewellery.

No touching please!

Resist the temptation to turn, twist, or touch your fresh piercings. Leave your piercings alone and let the healing process unfold naturally.

Clean Twice a Day

Clean your piercing with our Aftercare Solution twice a day until it is fully healed. You should do this for a minimum of 6 weeks for lobes, and a minimum of 12 weeks for cartilage and nose, and whenever your piercing is irritated.

Hair Care

After washing your hair, make sure to thoroughly dry your fresh piercings. Instead of using a towel, use a hair dryer on a low setting to prevent any unnecessary irritation.

Don't Change Until Healed

It is important to avoid changing your jewellery until your piercings are fully healed. Premature jewellery changes can lead to infection or irritation. Be patient and let your piercings heal completely.

Keep Your Earrings In

Always keep your earrings in place to prevent your piercings from closing up. If your earrings fall out or are removed, your piercings can start to close within a few hours.

Cartilage Piercings and Sleeping

Do not sleep directly on your fresh cartilage piercings. Sleeping on them can cause irritation, bumps, tenderness, and delay the healing process.

No Swimming

We suggest you avoid swimming in chlorinated pool water as your piercing heals to avoid infection.

Downsizing

Downsize your jewellery in 8-10 weeks to ensure a comfortable and optimal healing process. We can downsize your piercing jewellery at your follow up appointment.

Healing Time

Remember, the healing time frame for your piercings depends on how well you care for them.Follow these aftercare instructions diligently to ensure a smooth healing process.

SOME IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE

Care of the piercing is your responsibility. Following the above advice will ensure safe and proper healing of your new piercing.

In case of infection or if you have any concerns, please book back in to see our piercers for further advice. Do not remove piercing until medically advised to do so to avoid trapping infection in piercing channel.

If you have any concerns after a consultation or questions about caring for your piercing, contact our customer service team at sales@jessopjewellers.com.

FAQS

What can I expect in my appointment?

On the day of your appointment, you will arrive in-store and be greeted by one of our professionally qualified piercers. You, or your legal guardian if you are under 16 years old, will then be asked to fill in some paperwork to ensure it is safe for you to be pierced.

You will be welcomed to our piercing studio and then select which pre-sterilised studs you would like for your piercing, and our piercers will advise on the perfect placement based upon your face shape. Once your placement is selected, we will use a marker to place a small dot on the ear or nose. We will not pierce until you are happy with the position and are feeling ready.

We will then pierce your ears and provide you with your aftercare solution and advise on the best aftercare practices.

What piercings can I get?

We pierce the outer ear and cartilage, and nose.

Can I get multiple piercings done at one time?

Yes, you can get up to three lobe piercings done at one time.

For cartilage piercings, we can pierce one ear twice, but not both ears at the same time.

We also offer dual piercings, which is where two of our piercers work simultaneously. If you are seeking this service, please contact the store directly to make sure we have two piercers available on your preferred day.

What is the youngest age that we pierce ears?

We pierce children's ears from 5 years old and those who are under 16 must be accompanied by a legal guardian for the duration of the piercing appointment.

How long is the ear-piercing appointment?

Within a 20 minute appointment you are able to get up to three piercings.

What do I do if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?

If you need to cancel your appointment, please contact the directly by email on sales@jesopjewellers.com.

Do you accept walk-ins?

We do accept walk-ins. However, during busy periods, our store team may be serving other customers meaning there might be a wait before an available appointment slot.

To guarantee a time convenient to you, we recommend booking online.

What type of ear-piercing system do you use?

We use the Inverness Ear Piercing System which is known for its ability to pierce gently, quickly and hygienically. The benefits include:

  • The use of a hand pressured instrument (not a gun) for greater control and precision during ear piercing
  • Fully enclosed sterile earring capsules for a hygienic piercing
  • The Inverness Safety Back™ for secure placement and to allow optimal healing through allowing airflow around the piercing
